Summer 2011 is over!

All those days of remarkable heat, scorching sunlight, and dry lands are all over for this year. On the other hand, heavy clouds, refreshing rain, and damp soil will take over. This is not another summer vacation I've wasted just being at home. Sigh.
Why I am so excited to be in school again? Because I'm so unproductive while at home and I am about to die from boredom. Seriously. That's why.
Summer 2011 is finally over! Time for school, at last!

How come I'm still single?

That's right, reader, I've been single since birth. I had no girlfriend at all, no flings, maybe a little flirting. But no formality of a relationship thing. No. Never. Not once.
But I'm not stopping the possibility of having any until I graduate college though. At seventeen I still have my academics as my number one priority, and I'm doing this for the good of my further priorities: God, family and friends. This, I think, will make me a better person and have a better life so on and so forth.
After I graduate, or maybe after I've passed the board exams, I'll go get a girlfriend. Or maybe I would enjoy the liberty for a few months first before I tie myself with someone. I may build a house for my family, and would settle independently. At that moment I guess I'm all set for a long-term relationship, the time to be with someone I love.
I made an oath about it already. Girls may come and go into my college life but the door is closed for them now. I hope I won't eat these words in the next four years of my life.

Cory our dachshund

This female dog here was actually a dying puppy at birth. But she was retrieved, and given a life! I was told she was even healthier than her siblings a few hours after they were introduced to the world!

Saying no to alcohol

What should a non-drinker do when he is stuck in a situation wherein he is obliged to drink with some men at a celebration? Would he accept the challenge just for them to respect him? Would he run the flow and pressure he is having? Or could he just say no?
I've been in this situation today with a guy friend at a girl classmate's house for her parents' wedding anniversary. They were three other girls, and we're only two boys around. We went out the room after we ate there, as requested by her a little tipsy father because he said the room is only for girls. We respected it as visitors. It was fine with us two and just went outside. Until suddenly her father asked us to drink a few beer with his aged friends at a prepared table outside the house. We declined, as expected, because we do not drink alcohol. But he insisted to sit with them. We insisted stronger, although we were only visitors, but we didn't want to drink with them already intoxicated. We decided to go ahead and go somewhere to prevent a commotion around.
I think the key here is how one copes up with an invitation depending on the one who asks for a drink. If he is already under the influence of alcohol, you may need a little style of saying no to the offer. It can take a lot of risk but it will soon pay off. Or if they're just starting a table, that would be a lot easy. Staying away would be the safest thing to do. For me.
Saying no to a bottle of beer may spoil some guy bonding, but everybody also have their choices. Choice to drink, or not to drink. And we choose the latter.

The Invention of Everything Else

While I'm not so busy being online all the time since yesterday, I have the liberty to spend some life offline. And now, I have indulged myself to this book authored by Samantha Hunt with a title, "The Invention of Everything Else".
The first time I saw the book many weeks ago it has a price of more than a hundred pesos. I got interested at it, seeing the summary at the back of the cover. But then I considered the price, I remembered I don't buy books any less than fifty pesos. So I didn't mind at all, and just searched for other books I could make fond of. I bought a 5-peso one that time but didn't even bother to read it until now.
As I came back on the store for another session of book hunting after almost two weeks, I got the same book for twenty pesos. That untouched book of Hunt. A more than a hundred pesos of difference. It was a precious day for me. The price of Hunt's book has marked down, since nobody, I think, was willing to buy it. They lowered the amount so they could get someone purchase the book. And there I was, having a lucky ass about it. It's a good thing I did not buy the book the first time I saw it or else I'll call myself a really big douchebag to see another copy of the book in a much lower price. But no worries now, I got the book in hand for a price that didn't hurt my wallet.
I reckon this is the first time I'll finish a novel this vacation. Yes, I'm that Internet-obsessed that I have no time for reading. I read a few Bob Ong books already, all were amusing, and now I'm rooting for the last page of this mediocre book probably by next week. I find the book okay with its first 71 pages. I'm going page 72 today out of 250.
And this is me sharing about how successful I am reading a book during vacation.

Friends for keeps

If I have to give up something, I do not want to give up this no matter what.
I will always love you, Goldenberg-IV.

Scotty wins tenth season of American Idol

News flashed over the internet that Scotty McCreery emerged as the winner over Lauren Alain, on the finale episode of the tenth season of the American Idol. Before I could watch the last show of the season I already recognized the newest Idol, thanks to the ever-updated cyberspace.
I was really shocked to know that that the deep-voiced country boy won this season though this year they had a lot of unappreciated talent. I reckoned at first James Durbin would win, for he was like the straight version of Adam Lambert. But no, he was eliminated before choosing top three. There were also a few favorites I had, but were scrapped off the competition earlier than I had expected. If I may mention Casey Abrams, once retrieved by the judges' only save, Thia Megia, half-Filipino, and Pia Toscano whom everybody had a hard time accepting her elimination.
Lauren was my bet for this year's season after the final two have been announced. Maybe that little commotion about her voice hours before the competition may have affected her final performances, but I do believe in the talent she has. I believe in Scotty's talent too, but I guess there will always be one winner, and America has to choose for their new idol. And they already did.
Good job Idol, you have one nice season this year. I hope the next would be better. Congrats Scotty!
